Fun for the family last weekend on our cobs

The weekend started at Tuakau Adult Riding Club grounds with Conor riding 7 yo Welsh cob X tb B. Shamrock and Steve on the full sister 6 yo B. Sally Gap. The lads did a round of showjumping at 60cm, I know that is small but they never jump SJ courses so its a challenge not to have a ground line and to have bright vibrant jumps. The course was very inviting and the horses and riders really enjoyed it. Then they went on to the Cross country course and enjoyed many of the jumps on offer, palisades, water, tyres, tiger traps, roll tops and coops. We were really impressed by Shamrock who has never jumped Cross Country jumps before. They all had a real blast!!

The next day I entered Welsh cob mare B. Duchess at the Hunua Pony Club Ribbon Day. She had left our property 3 times before and one of those was to the beach . and another to a friends farm for a hack so I was really pleased with her calmness and willingness to join in all the flat classes in the morning. She didnt mind cantering around in a large ride missing the jumps that were set up, we paired up with another bay cob type mare for the pairs class but we couldnt convince them to stay together, LOL. There were many comments on her lovely paces and her calmness- thank you all those people.

In the afternoon Steve rode his mare in the jumping classes, it took him a while to warm Sally up but then they suddenly got the hang of it all and ended up jumping 90cm in the Tip and Out- the highest Steve has ever jumped!. Steve was thrilled and we had many lovely comments about Sally's technique over a jump- yes she sure has cute knees.
