Te Arai Pt- 2 and a half cobs on the beach

Yet another riding holiday this summer has seen the family pack the horse truck and join the throngs leaving hot and sultry Auckland. We joined friends Wolfgang and Rosie Sholz on a riding holiday at Te Arai Pt. What a fantastic time away. We had 3 days and two nights there. It wasnt long enough really.

The trails are sandy tracks through Forest with a surf beach only 10 mins ride from the camp. The guys perfected the art of riding in shorts- maybe the hairiness of their legs prevents them from chaffing- who knows?

The photo above is from left to right Steve on 5yo Welsh cob X Tb Ballytruckle Sally Gap, Conor on 5 yo Welsh cob Ballytruckle Centurion and me on 10 yo Welsh cob Minbarra Lord Nelson at the beach on our third day. We surprised the surfers lying on their boards in the softly curling waves but boy they surprised the young horses when they caught a wave and stood up in the shallows!

The obligatory fishing was also enjoyed by Conor catching a blue maumau in the night from rocks at Te Arai Pt, the headland directly behind us.
